Perkins is located in Payne county. It dates to the landrush of 1889 when 40 acres were donated for a township by Joseph Wert. The township was first named Cimmeron, then Italy and finally Perkins which was derived from Walden Perkins the Kansas congressman who helped establish the local post office.
